TN Schools S/L Service Delivery Models
The TN S/L service delivery model is a two-tiered system involving the SLP (master level) and the SSLT (bachelor level). The SLP holds the ethical and legal responsibility for service delivery, diagnosis/eligibility determination and developing the IEP. The SSLT may implement therapy under the supervision of the SLP in accordance with the IEP.
In the two-tiered system, only the SLP may:
- Identify a student as having a speech or language impairment.
- Diagnose speech or language impairments.
- Assess evaluation results.
- Develop IEPs.
- Develop treatment plans.
- Provide supervision for SSLTs. at least 10% direct supervision each week -
20% indirect supervision
- Define the roles and responsibilities of any SSLT working under her or his direction.
In the two-tiered system, SSLTS must work under the direction of a licensed SLP. The role of the SSLT is to supplement, not supplant, the services of the SLP. The SLP is responsible for the SSLT when working with clients. A written work plan including a chart to document direct and indirect supervision must be signed and developed by the SLP and the SSLT with a copy turned into the building principal.
